Evening Neighborhood Bus Tour

The opportunity to redevelop the Fairgrounds property is an opportunity to leverage that redevelopment to improve conditions for all residents of surrounding neighborhoods.

The Fairgrounds District hosted an evening bus tour Tuesday of neighborhoods surrounding the Fairgrounds, providing stakeholders the opportunity to learn more about the persistent challenges in the area and better understand the root causes and contributing factors.

Led by Albuquerque Police Department’s Southeast Area Commander, Josh Richards, the tour drove through areas that suffer particularly high violent and property crime, numerous vacant homes, apartments, and business structures, as well as areas where businesses are thriving and community members have worked to increase safety and walkability.

In pushing to create the Fairgrounds District, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham articulated that development on the Fairgrounds will coincide with community benefits and efforts to reduce crime and improve the surrounding neighborhoods, with language included in the enabling legislation.

Thanks to KRQE for tagging along and sharing the tour with the public.
